This exhibition consists of artwork inspired by icons. Two show stoppers of MICHAEL JACKSON include “King of Pop”, made of 33 original Motown Records and “Forever Michael”, a portrait using Michael’s original album covers.

Also featured in this exhibition is a fiberglass sculpture of LADY GAGA that incorporates a vintage brass drum and paparazzi lighting.

John F. Kennedy, The Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Jack Nicholson, Oprah, Sharon Stone, Jennifer Lopez, Giselle, Taylor Lautner, John Mayer, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Courtney Love and others are included in this major premier. EMINEM “RELAPSE”

Renowned European artist, Georges Monfils, has created a controversial painting of Multi-Platinum, Oscar and Grammy winning Rapper, EMINEM. Georges was drawn to the prolific rapper because of his shocking yet real lyrics – Verbal Graffiti as Georges likes referring to them.

Eminem is the only Rapper in the Top Selling Artists of the Decade, and also the only artist to have two albums in the Top 10 selling Albums of the Decade. All achieved in an industry specific to the black community.

While Eminem has blatantly spoken out to the world that he is recovering from drug addiction, portrayed in this image by graffiting the word “RELAPSE” on the wall, he is also shielding himself from the rain – in other words, the temptations that surround him. As a further poke at reality, Eminem uses a newspaper to try to shield himself. The same papers so quick to blast him in the first place.

Eminem is just an everyday man, working out his troubles vocally. The artist, famous for his mixed media, utilized only acrylics, in an effort to have Eminem’s simplicity show through. This controversial theme, involving the Paparazzi and celebrities, runs
throughout all the pieces in Georges upcoming exhibit at:

Site Specific Installations in Maine & NYC

A businessman, one Coleman Burke, owns spaces in New York City, as well as Portland, Maine, and invites sculpture artists to utilize the spaces for site specific installations. The spaces themselves become integral parts of the respective artworks, as pieces of post-modern fiction, whereby the spaces become artifacts in the post-modernist fictions. "Post-modern art is not so much about the creation of objects as it is about the creation of imaginative enterprises, alternative realities that parallel the everyday."

They say that the murderer always returns to the scene of the crime and Yatzer admits to have sinned for good with the case of Gehard Demetz. Some months ago we presented his spectacular sculptures at Yatzer (The dark celebration of Gehard Demetz // 01 October 2009), and they became one of our bigest success, with thousands of people visiting our site and letting dozen of passionate comments (read some more comments here). Since we are big fans of his unique work and due to your demand we found Gehard Demetz and convinced him to give us an exclusive interview. Wishes do come true and as you can imagine we couldn’t be any happier. The only thing left now is for you to discover his answers, hoping that they may cast a light on his enigmatic work. CITY OF ANGELS

Acclaimed artist, Georges Monfils, provides a provoking tribute to Los Angeles, a city as famous as it is infamous.

Georges latest work – CITY OF ANGELS combines several of the artist’s signature mediums; acrylic, original vinyl records and Dominoes.

His subject; a city that propels from the heart of the entertainment industry and spins around in a whirl of personalities that include film, music and sports legends.

Georges stimulates the senses with the use of 3-dimensional elements to create the iconic images of this ever changing, but eternally recognizable city. The effect is to both attract and amuse. Dominoes portraying the Hollywood landscape, 100 stacked records for the Capitol Records building and Kobe’s image on a basketball that looms over the sky like the “man in the moon”.

Further alluding to Georges intent, the spinning reels of the film and music industry suggest a Mickey Mouse cap on his central character – the irreverent Jack Nicholson as “McMurphy” from “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”.

Perplexing in the subtle undertones, Georges Monfils’ CITY OF ANGELS captivates the viewer as it urges deeper contemplation.

Drawing inspiration from the oxymoron that is 'Paparazzi', this current work by artist Georges Monfils reflects a satirical view on the relationship between

"celebrity" and the photographs that keep their images at the center of the world stage.

A defining trait of Georges' creativity is to illustrate controversy. With 'Paparazzi' his focus is on celebrity, for being a celebrity. Recreating famous magazine covers, these icons are at once- subject and character; Georges combines to show image and reflection.

Recent California laws have attempted to control celebrity frenzy. But, does celebrity exist without frenzy? The answer would appear to be simple. With all the implied evil the paparazzi represents is the celebrity's fear of obscurity the greater evil?

It's no wonder, one does not exist without the other.

NEW PAINTING OF MICHAEL JACKSON

International Renowned Artists, Georges Monfils has created a Mixed Media Painting of the Evolution of Michael Jackson “King of Pop”

Utilizing 33 Original LP Vinyl Records. The Release of This Amazing Work of Art Coincides with the 25 Year Anniversary of The Jackson 5’s signing with Motown.

By cutting the original records into various shapes, the artist incorporated the importance of the Man with his original music label. Michael Jackson changed the face of music as his face changed. That is carefully recreated in the artist’s interpretation of Michael’s personal Evolution.

Michael Jackson will never be forgotten. His imprint on the music industry is immeasurable. He is considered one of the most influential artists of all time, has the top selling album of all time – “Thriller”, changed the music video industry into an art form, inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, holds 15 Grammy Awards, won 26 American Music Awards (more than any other artist) and was a legendary dancer, composer, producer, instrumentalist.

Artist Georges Monfils, is also the creator of the Van Gogh portrait made of over 12,000 artist’s colored pencils. Each pencil cut and sharpened to lie in a particular way. When looking at the portrait from a distance it looks almost identical to the original self-portrait by Van Gogh, except it is 5 feet tall. Only as you move closer you are aware that it is thousands of pencils. It is so exceptional that it was purchased by the Van Gogh Museum to hang in their entry.

This exhibition entitled “Evolution” will feature works of art on Michael Jackson, Jay-Z, Puff Daddy, Eminem, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, 50 Cent, Kid Cudi, Kanye West, T.I., Jack Nicholson and Leonardo DiCaprio. Eric Henderson has been touching souls for many years with his unique ability to communicate with the guitar. Since he first picked up the instrument at the age of six, it was clear that Eric had a calling.

At the age of 12 Eric had the opportunity to play for the master guitarist Andres Segovia while he was in Los Angeles for a concert. As a result, Segovia invited Eric to study with him in Madrid, Spain, making Eric one of only three people to ever study privately with the Maestro. During his four years of study in Spain, Eric also had the opportunity to study with Aureo Herrero, Ernesto Bitetti, Emilio Pujol and also with the great composer Federico Moreno Torroba. Having logged ten European and nine American tours, as well as a tour of Russia and Japan, Eric returned to his hometown, Laguna Beach, CA where he resides with his wife, Prof. Virginia Mann. When not performing, he spends his time composing, teaching and contributing to the development of new techniques for the guitar.

Eric has recorded numerous albums for several major labels including JVC and MCA as well as other independent labels. These projects feature standard repertoire for classical guitar, as well as Eric’s transcriptions, arrangements and compositions.

JOEL POWELL, Jewelry Designer was one of the Original Costume Jewelry Designers, whose work was so legendary it was worn to many red carpet affairs without being detected as faux. Joel was one of the leading Designers in Henri Bendel, Bergdorf’s and Bullocks Wilshre. When Joel began Trunk Shows at these stores, customers would line up around the block and ask for his autograph!!!

Joel’s knowledge of fine jewelry design allowed him to make costume jewelry coveted by celebrities. Each season of the year, Joel would produce a limited collection incorporating color trends with timeless looks. Many pieces produced in the 1970’s are still seen today.

John Salminen

John Salminen is a world class watercolorist.

Winner of more than 190 National & International Awards.

John loves to paint intricate scenes with lots of details. When he was here for the opening, he discussed how he chooses locations specifically that have no negative space. (ie: under bridges, under the “loop” in Chicago, under wires and cables in S.F.)

For that same reason, he loves to paint rainy days. Otherwise, the pavement would be boring – rain allows for reflections, shine and tone changes.


John is an expert at making an ordinary scene seem like a memorable event, as in the Men buying meat at the Butcher’s.

HongNian Zhang - Silk Road

HONGNIAN ZHANG


HongNian Zhang is a world reknowned artist. His fabulous Chinese Historical scenes have been published by National Geographic Magazine 3 times. (National Geographic uses photography to exemplify the narrative and has never featured an artist) They then purchased those paintings for their corporate offices in New York.

His historical scenes are of famous events that happened in the early days of Chinese history and therefore, there are no photos or visual records. These stories are very famous and HongNian is proud to visualize the events as close to historically accurate as is possible. A self taught history buff, he has carried these visions in his head awaiting the occasion to bring them to life.

Once the historical event is chosen, he begins making numerous sketched versions of what is already in his mind. Pouring over them until one satisfies his vision, he then takes that composition to the next level. After numerous layouts, he begins a color study; a sort of palette that will dictate the composition and the costumes.

HongNian travels from Woodstock, NY to China multiple times for each painting as he begins laying the groundwork for documenting these monolithic events. HongNian has a “backstage pass” to places others aren’t allowed entry. Through the Chinese government and National Geographic, as well as museum curators and well-connected Chinese movie stars, He is able to go inside places like the DUN HUANG CAVES, the tombs containing the TERRA COTTA WARRIORS and into the vaults at the Chinese Museums. Once inside, HongNian carefully studies the particular Dynasty that the scene represents. He sketches right from the walls in the caves or the costumes in the vaults and he extracts everything he needs to choreograph his scene. This includes the shapes of vessels, the hairstyles, shoes, clothing, jewelry, accessories, horses, colors and symbols used during that dynasty. Hundreds of individual sketches are made so that he can recreate authentic replicas. In addition, he studies the characteristics of the people in that era: height, body shape, facial features, ethnic heritage and mannerisms. Ever sketching, he later uses this data to draw the individuals for the scene.

Next is the process of measuring the models so that he can custom make authentic recreations of that dynasty’s clothing. He then returns to China to choose the fabrics personally, as the colors need to be historically accurate as well as follow the color palette he has already lined out.

Anthony Waichulis - Living Master

ANTHONY WAICHULIS - LIVING MASTER
Anthony Waichulis is a Pennsylvania native, living, painting and teaching from a small rural town.
Anthony is the first ever Trompe L’oeil artist to be chosen as one of the Top 100 Living Masters!! He was only 35 years old when selected. In addition, he was named by Fine Art Connoiseur Magazine as one of the three top artists to collect.
Trompe L’oeil is an age old art form that captures the setting in its exact form, as there were no cameras then. The setting must be of real items, done in the correct scale and there can be no brush strokes when the painting is complete. Once cameras were invented, this art form became less popular, but Anthony has personally set out to return it to popularity. His successes have in fact caused major museums to again have Trompe L’oeil exhibits and to pull their great collections from storage.
Due to the fact that he has a long list of collectors and it takes him approximately half a year to do one painting, his works are scarce. Anthony enjoys setting the stage for his Trompe L’oeil’s, but once he has mastered the subject he will not return to it. This further adds to the collectibility of his masterpieces.
This particular painting affords Anthony the opportunity to contrast light with dark and the softness and worn-look of the leather ball against the crisp and sharp glass bits. The edge of the furniture plays against the piece of tape to truly Fool-the-Eye (the definition of Trompe L’oeil).
His sense of humor shows through in each painting and even the title of this painting, “Dodger Blues” is a testament to his wit.

Reknowned Watercolorist

JOHN SALMINEN is a native of Minnesota. He is a World Reknowned watercolorist, one of the 100 Living Masters and holder of more than 190 Awards. Known for his realistic urban landscapes, he has the ability to take the most ordinary events and turn them into celebrations of life.

Most watercolorists paint only the image on the paper, but John covers every square inch of the paper with paint. He includes every detail, down to the street signs, window stickers, and power lines. His inclusion of the details other artists delete only seems to magnify the importance of the event.

Looking at his painting “Stockton Street” for example, it is a crowded San Francisco street with power lines and street lights mixed with heavy traffic and buildings – not what you would ordinarily want to look at, but somehow all those details make this scene fascinating!!!! The power lines add to the perspective of the painting and the buildings and street give it height and depth.

It is a credit to John’s talent to take watercolor, a very difficult medium, and create the interest and excitement level that he has.
